| Brain Poke 3.0 was developed by J.R.
Leitch and Tyler Lorig of Washington and Lee University. The brain
image was generously supplied by Wally Welker of the Wisconsin
Comparative Mammal Brain Collection.
The original Brain Poke had its beginings as
an assignment given to Doug Matia and Tim Thompson when they were
undergraduates at Washington and Lee. They developed a "simulation"
of Pennfield's experiments on brain stimulation during neurosurgery.
The original implementation was on NeXT computers and the name
Brain Poke came from a Gary Larson Far Side
cartoon still pinned to a bulletin board in the lab. A portion
of its caption reads: "....Try it Hobbs - just poke his
brain right where my finger is."
Barney Ireland was responsible for bringing Brain Poke
to the World Wide Web. After working in the lab at W&L, Barney
graduated and began work at the University of Alabama, Birmingham
Medical School. It was there that he developed Brain Poke for
the World Wide Web, an application that became very popular
in both college assignments and grade schools.
All of us involved in creating Brain Poke hope
that you will enjoy the simulation and learn more about the relationship
between brains and experience. |
